Our Name

Te Aka Toitū translates to 'The Sustainable Vine'

Toitū  - means 'Sustainable'.  Our initiative aims to create a sustainable model where our students can be successful in the future. The region we belong to is also referred to as ‘Te Moana a Toi’. The word Tū means to stand to hold fast.

Aka - means 'Vine'. The concept of a vine reflects both the ability of our students to be 'connected' with their learning online and for the participating schools to connect and collaborate on best teaching practice for our students. Vines also adapt to their environment, and our organisation will continue to adapt so we can best meet the needs of our students in the future.
